Announcement

Today marks the first day of my new blog, Just A Song. Regular readers of Citizen K. know my love of songwriting, and Just A Song is a means of indulging that love. All entries will include the name of the artist and song, the albums it appears on, miscellaneous notes, the lyrics, and -- if available-- a video of the song. Some entries, like today's on Leonard Cohen's "If It Be Your Will," will feature a brief essay about a particular song or annotations. I welcome you to join me on Just A Song, and I'm curious to know which of you can identify the origin of the blog name.

That's a great idea for a project. Will be reading it.

Thanks! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now. Living in Austin all those years sharpened my appreciation for a good song.

Sure! Graham Nash.

Over to your new blog now...

Whoops -- GN is correct, but that's not the song I had in mind. It's pretty obscure...

Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Just a song..and dance man, referring to Dylan?

I saw Michael Gray last night speaking about Dylan's encyclopedic knowledge of pre-war blues. Michael Gray wrote a couple of books about Dylan titled Song and Dance Man, but I don't think that's what you're after.

How about 3 Dog Night. No wait...

Dylan's musical knowledge and taste are incomparable. One of my favorite releases of last year was the Starbucks Hear Music CD of Dylan selections. Just fantastic stuff.

P.S. You are of course right about the First Lines being from LC's "Democracy." Now I have to come up with something new!

Great idea, K-- you write really well about music, so I'll be following intently-- both in the conventional sense & in the googlespeak sense.

That's not the one I had in mind. I was thinking of an old Dave Mason tune. Mason was an original member of Traffic best known for his song "Feelin' All Right," which was a big hit for Joe Cocker. You can listen to his "just A Song" here. Enjoy, and thanks for your comment.

Great idea, but I hope that doesn't mean you won't be posting music here anymore. I like the eclectic quality of your blog. When I click over here, I never know what I'm going to find!

Thanks, Kathy, and not to worry: I'll still be writing about music on Citizen K.
