Sunday Funnies & Arts

Our lives...are but a little while, so let them run as sweetly as you can, and give no thought to grief from day to day. For time is not concerned to keep our hopes, but hurries on its business, and is gone.

As always, click to enlarge. For more Doonesbury, Tom Toles, Tony Auth, and Pat Oliphant, go here, here, here, and here...

And now, a word from our sponsor (Winstone taste good like a cigarette should):

Don't Do As I Do, Do As I Say Dept. Sometimes, life is sweet:
Bristol [Palin]'s focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence [sic]...
Then when you think life can't get any sweeter, something like this happens...

Michelle Obama and Queen Elizabeth, new BFFs...

If you're ever in Richmond, VA, a trip to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to view this Mary Cassatt painting is a must.

I loved that Flintstones commercial. A long time since I've actually watched the series!

It's a real find, isn't it? I stumbled across it while looking for something else. Hope your studies are going well!

Sure is :)

Pretty ok, a little behind but I'm getting there!

Ah, Sarah, Sarah! This statement sounded familiar:

We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship...

Sounds like what we all said about Sarah Palin's campaign strategy. Looks like the kid learned from the best.

And oh my! I was watching Pop Staples there and started drooling over that old Fender Reverb amp he was playing through. Those have to have been the best guitar amps ever made!

K. I am sure you're aware that Tom Toles is also a Univ of Buffalo English B.A. holder like my own self. I always loved the guy's work and his Ronald Reagan looked more like Reagan than Reagan. Glad to see him up here. Leonard Cohen spooks me just a bit I think...But I appreciate reading your takes on him and his stuff. I always think of that son Everybody knows and it's pretty damned brutal, such is life I guess.

Roy: Thanks for pointing that out about the amp. That's the difference who listens (me) and someone who does (you)!

Rasta: "Everybody Knows" is not, shall we say, light-hearted. But I do think that LC's rep as a purveyor of doom and gloom is overstated.
