What Is, Was, and Might Have Been

Seventeen commanding, emphatic, and inspirational minutes that include a blunt presidential imperative that America end its "addiction to fossil fuel":

What might have been:

What was:

Citizen K. is off to Washington D. C. to attend a conference on Cancer Survivorship Research: Recovery and Beyond. From there, he'll shuffle up to Boston to visit #1 son. Citizen K. is also very happy to announce that he has been accepted by the University of Washington as a candidate for a Master's in Health Care Administration...

Waitin' for a superman...

Take it away, Leon! (Who is that banjo player, anyway?)

That leak meter you've installed is horrifying.

Dear K., Congratulations on going forward with your graduate school plans. In regard to the President's speech last night, I appreciated all of it very much, except at one point he referred to Louisiana residents as "neighbors"... NO! we are PART of the UNITED STATES.. thanks as always, sp

Congratulations on being accepted into the Masters program!

Yeah, it's quite a contrast between what the President said last night and his predecessor and his rival; no question at all about who has the better answer!

Wow! It's a shock to see Leon so young; I'm so used to him with the long white hair, even in the early '70s. And I'd swear that banjo player was Glen Campbell except that Glen was on tour with the Beach Boys in 1965 (filling in for Brian Wilson, if you can believe it!). Plus it he doesn't play banjo, although this guy doesn't look like he's playing much in the video, either. But he sure does look like Glen!

Hmmm. The consensus is that the POTUS's speech was a bust, essentially an expression of his complete powerlessness to actually do anything about any of this because the oil business has a stranglehold on everything including government.

Love, C.

Well, I guess I'm not part of the consensus, thank the Lord. Some of my fellow lefties are beginning to sound so much like the damn righties I can't tell 'em apart. I just don't know what the hell people expected - charts and graphs. We are so petty and small. We expect to have ALL or nothing.

Congrats K... good on ya!

I agree with TnLib... we expect so much from this man and therefore are so easily disappointed if he doesn't say exactly what we think he should.

I really think it is Glen Campbell... if not his twin....lol

Wow - back to school are ye?

You make us all proud, dude! Get that Masters and then go get 'em!(The bureaucrats that don't know sheet from shinola.)

As to BP, I want them to be penalized, I want them to clean up their act, but mostly I want them to publicly own up to their gross negligence, step up to the plate, and extend a sincere effort...not the political safe mumbo jumbo half-assed crap they've (pardon the pun) spewed so far.

I, like yourself, am a little skeptical when it comes to the government strong arm tactics. Be very careful what you wish for, right?

I think there were a lot of other avenues Obama could have taken other than receivership.

It serves no purpose to bankrupt the company when you need them to be fiscally responsible for such a heartbreaking catastrophe.

I do agree there should be some sort of neutral (how to find that?) third party oversight.

And I must confess I totally distrust both my government and corporate America to not screw this situation up worse. As usual, it's forever the little guy (all the way down to the shrimp in the ocean) that gets left in the wake of such behemouths.

I think I would rather see a Gulf states coalition working together with DC, but with more power, more voice. We live here, the DC suits do not.

Oh, and I believe I have never seen Leon as a young man. Even a that young(er) age, Leon exhibits his trademark cool.

Of course that's Glen Campbell! Who else? Campbell was an ambitious sessions man before he gained fame. Leon's musical connections ranged far and wide, including the Beach Boys, so not surprising to see the ol' Wichita Lineman playing alongside him.

I have a very good high school friend who toured with Leon for 7 years or so...Trudy Fair, who now raises Brangus cattle on her small little ranching operation just west of Weatherford. She has won numerous Texas Swing vocal accolades. Terrific voice. Said Leon was not necessarily the the most "fun" guy to have as a boss, but he knew the business top to bottom. You knew to never, even accidentally, upstage The Leon, LOL.

Congratulations on your acceptance. I hope you are able to put your knowledge to good use; the health care system could use it.

Thank God we have Obama in the White House instead of the swaggering cowboy oil man or the old senile guy who wants to be there.

Yay! Geaux Get'em, K!
I'm still gonna pick on you about Obama's Tar Baby Fetish.
