NM, when I was a kid, I loved him in Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines and Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies. I remember him cackling about a dastardly stunt he was ready to pull on a competitor, saying that "the best part is, he'll be thrown out for cheating!"

From the late 70s through the early 80s, The Kinks played Austin annually. I never missed them, and they never disappointed.
