Sunday Funnies and Arts

As always, click to enlarge.

Watching this video of Neil Young's "Thrasher," I was struck by the differences in the iconic images of a man with a guitar and a woman with a guitar. Young's energy flows outward: He conveys a message by seducing the audience. The guitar is, if not an instrument of aggression, a second microphone that amplifies his intent to connect a personal vision. Compare Young's presence with Patty Griffin's as she sings "Be Careful":

The size of the guitar nearly overwhelms the petite Griffin, forming a protective barrier. She sings and plays with great maternal presence, drawing the audience toward her, attempting to elicit a personal empathy for the emotional vulnerability of young women...

Heh, heh! Garry Trudeau still has it. That series on the enactors at the Virginia Confederate History celebration was priceless, and then today's Sunday comic. Poor Mark; intelligence just doesn't yield as much comedy fodder as out-and-out stupidity.

Never has and never will! My father says that Trudeau is a national treasure. Trudeau said that he could have done a comic about Bush every day for eight years.

That's a wonderful picture, isn't it? The instruments are practically playing themselves.

Thanks for The Thrasher.
It isn't that I forget, but that Neil always surprises me with songs I've heard him him do.
I've been so caught up in the slick that I missed hanging my Sunday Special K Comics. Yikes. You know that's distracted.
I really appreciate the way you keep your Eye on Louisiana.
There are people going to the coasts with their young children to take pictures of it before its gone for their generation.

Your Word Thingy Formenter WTFer fits right in with my thoughts on Nationalizing BP to compensate those effected by this Trillion Dollar Ass Fuck:
"civig"
Civil Vigilance

But of course your Ho'so Humble Editilla really just considers the V...
