Tuesday, Tuesday

Newsweek's Howard Fineman reports from the Southern Christian Republican Leadership Conference. Now, I didn't know this, but apparently southern Republicans believe that President Obama is a socialist and a traitor, and take great pride in being the Party of No. Attendance might have been greater except that some invitations apparently got lost in the mail: Fineman saw only two African-Americans and no Latinos or Asian-Americans. They must all live in an odd zip code or something...

According to the state of Nebraska, any woman seeking an abortion must be mentally ill. Of the 49 members of the state's unicameral legislature, 10 are women...

A Tennessean sees the teabaggers and tells it like it is:
We've known better when Tea Bagger activists claimed they weren't racist. We've seen it too often. "I'm not racist," they protest looking you straight in the eye. And in the next breath, "Ain't that monkey ever gonna get me ma drink?"...

Cliff's Crib writes that it all comes down to saving the babies...

He wasn't fired, he just wasn't renewed. And it wasn't over his criticism of the Army Corps of Engineers, it was...well, frankly, we don't have to tell you why. Now, please drop this so that we can get back to serious research and academic freedom (thanks, Editilla)...

News Flash: MSM discovers that many Republicans believe that the sky is green...

Earmark appropriations fall 27% under the Obama-Reid-Pelosi Axis of Evil. John Boner faults Democrats for not doing enough to halt a practice that Republicans invented...

Hey Jude, don't make it bad...

Dan Reeder will never surf again. Don't miss the vintage film in this montage:

I love the way these yahoos usurp leftist names: Southern Republican (Christian) Leadership Committe (as you say) and Conservative Woodstock. What insulting ding-a-lings they are.

I'm half-surprised that they didn't go ahead and call it the Southern Conservative Leadership Conference so that they could appropriate the SCLC acronym. It's not like they don't have the gall. All this is is another name for the White Citizen's Council.

It's interesting, but it's beginning to look like some Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the teabaggers. Scott Brown was invited to share the podium with Sarah Palin at a Tea Party rally in Boston, and he declined. His published statement was that he was too busy in Washington DC doing the work the people elected him to do, but you have to wonder if he isn't starting to see Sarah and the Tea Party as the kiss of death, or at least a smudge on one's record.

Here in RI there's really not much of a Tea Party movement, but what there is of it keeps bugging Steven Laffey, the Cheney neo-con thug who ran against Lincoln Chaffee in the Republican primary in 2006 because the party regulars didn't want a moderate in the party, to (a) run for governor in the upcoming election, and (b) appear at their rallies. Apparently Big Steve doesn't see it that way. He refuses to appear at their rallies, and he keeps telling them over and over again that he has no plans to run in the gubernatorial election (Linc Chaffee is running as an independent and Laffey knows Linc would eat him for breakfast if he ran).

Emerson saif guests and fish stink after three days; I think the more "mainstream" conservatives are having the same feelings about the teabaggers.

I love that film clip, though it made me feel sad and nostalgic for something, not necessarily surfing.

That shark was something else! so was the eating underwater.

Roy: I have to think that the 'baggers are very problematic for New England Republicans. I don't see how you can run hard right and hold statewide office there. Brown has to run again in two years with Obama at the top of the Democratic ticket, and in a state where Obama remains popular. It doesn't take Bill Clinton to figure out that if Brown wants to keep his job, he'd better tack to the center.

NM: Those are wonderful films, aren't they? I can and have watched surfers for hours. I hear that Perth has some great surfing beaches.

So has Victoria and New South Wales

Loved the Dan Reeder surfing film! (Especially the gnawing on massive hunks of underwater fowl.)
