The stupidity and hypocrisy of the austerity movement...

The Mexican Revolution: Its past, present, and future. A lengthy but interesting Marxist perspective the last hundred years of Mexican history. A good way for the United States to foment revolution in Mexico would be to round up and deport 11,000,000 undocumented workers and to seal our borders...

She wuz robbed (sort of)...

Texas Republicans Pete Session and John Cornyn perform a tap dance that makes Ben Vereen look like a double amputee. Somehow, Cornyn maintains a straight face when claiming that Republicans oppose legislation "based on an ideological approach as opposed to let's solve the problem." If you think I'm making this up, jump ahead to 4:52...

ON THE JUKEBOX FOR A DIME
Peter Tibbles, who writes about music every Sunday on Time Goes By, and I discovered a mutual blathering infatuation with Emmylou Harris and have productively directed our energies into a fanblog called 365 Days of Emmylou Harris. The idea is to post something -- a video, a photo, cover art -- every day for a year. Check it out here...

Tears Go By Dept: Stu Sutcliffe and George Harrison in Hamburg, 1961...

Them old cotton fields at home...

The sigh of the weary...

Location, Location, Location Dept: Sweet dreams are made of this. I swear, too much caffeine can kill you...

The mortgage crisis may have killed hopes a development of truck houses, but some folks in Lake Fork (ID) still have their dream home...

Ever wanted to know the difference between a trolley, a tram, a street car, a cable car, a funicular, a cog, and an interurban? The Daily Postcard explains it all for you, via her usual wonderful assortment of antique postcards...

One man's cool, rational explanation of decay is another man's epitaph...

First! HA!
Man it's gotten to where I HAVE GOT TO HAVE MY SUNDAY FUNNIES from Da'Citizen. Duke sent me into paroxysms, I mean screen spewing guffaw.
I got to stand like 50 feet from Emylou at one of those Lilith Fairs in Chicago, with her band Spy Boy. I'm tollin'ya... shivers. After she finished her set she gets halfway off the stage and turns to Whistle: "Hey Beauregard! Come on!" and this Redbone hound jumps outta the Roadie section to follow here off the stage.
I'm like...AW'DAT!

'Course I also enjoy your Saturday thingy to with Pres What's His Name. :):):)

Beautiful version of "Sweet Dreams"--how can you go wrong with Emmylou Harris! For something completely different, have you ever heard the Mekons' cover of this tune? It's not a YouTube, but you can hear a snippet of it here. Love the Mekons, & how they just disassemble everything & put it back together wrong-side out. Great funnies, too; & glad you liked the truck house!

Oh my, two Emmylou clips in one day, and an Emmylou blog to boot! Be still my beating heart! Yes, I signed on as a follower for 365 Days of Emmylou; how could I not?

And just to add one more Emmylou note to your festivities... I loved the "Hard Times Come Again No More" video by Mavis Staples on TaraDharma's blog. And it reminded me of a gorgeous version of that one I heard by one great lineup, part of the Trans-Atlantic Sessions involving a whole festival-full of American, British, Scottish, and Irish musicians. This one featured Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou, Karen black, and two other singers I'm not familiar with, plus Molly Mason on bass and Jay Unger on fiddle. Here it is! That's some gorgeous harmony!

Great laughs to lighten my day. Thanks for taking the trouble to post so many. I love them all.

K, I have a link for you in the comment section of my last post . I hope it works after you cut and paste it in your browser. If it doesn't, let me know and I will try another way to get my movie of Hakone in Sarasota, CA to you.

Editilla: The Spyboy tour was really good. Was Buddy Miller her guitarist? Once I met her road manager. He turned out to be the guy who stole Gram Parson's body and took it to the Joshua Tree desert.

John: Loved The Mekons. Have you heard Social Distortion's cover of "Ring of Fire"? It's here.

Roy: Wow. Wow. Did I say wow? I have that one scheduled for 365 Days.

NM: That's an old cartoon from a strip called "Academia Waltz." It appeared back in the early 80s in The Daily Texan (or Daily Pravda, as some called it), the student newspaper of the University of Texas. The cartoonist, Berke Brethed, went on to produce the internationally syndicated strip "Bloom County."

Darlene: The video sure took me back. The Saratoga area is the best part of the South Bay.
