They're No Good

Here's something I don't understand. The latest Republican excuse for not extending unemployment benefits is that people without work are lazy and shouldn't be encouraged to sit on their butts by getting princely sums like $250 a month in unemployment compensation. But, if these people are so indolent and undeserving, why do the Republicans carp about the unemployment rate? After all, if everyone who deserves a job already has one, what do the Republicans care about creating more jobs?

Typically talking out of both sides of their mouths, demonstrating once again that they have no clue what they're doing.

Talking out both sides of their mouths? Or a firm commitment to social darwinism? Although somehow I don't see the current Republicans being firmly committed to anything but saying no to anything any Democrat proposes. Then again, I can't see them mourning the death of the middle class, which is what this recession is bringing about, either.

tnlib: I'd say that their hypocrisy is breathtaking, but I'm almost inured to it by now.

Roy: I must admit that I am officially lost as to why some of them do what they do. Some are committed ideologues who think that their gauzy concept of "freedom" is the best for the country no matter what it does to the people. I call them the "love America/hate Americans" crowd. Most of the rest (Mitch McConnell, etc) are cynics who hold most people in contempt and don't care what happens to them. Then there's the Liebeman-Snowe-Collins-Brown group that loves the spotlight and thinks that they come across as thoughtfully moderate when they're actually on an ego trip. (I count Lieberman because if the Republicans go a Senate majority, he'd change caucuses faster than George Bush hopped on a flight to Crawford.)

The Republicans are throwing out their usual jingoism for consumption of the ignorant who never question anything that their 'gods' preach. Yes, the hypocrisy is so rampant that you get used to it.

I love the quality of Linda Ronstadt's voice. She is from Tucson and her family is a very prominent one here.

Darlene, I had forgotten that Linda Ronstadt was from Arizona. She is Hispanic, correct? That's some beautiful country down there.

Yes, Linda is Hispanic. The Ronstadts owned a spacious upscale department store in Tucson for years. It is no longer here, but the large extended family are very active in the Tucson community.

Nothing is logical when it comes to Republicans-- you would think that they might also realize that some of those millions on unemployment are also voters-- ahem....guess which party those folks won't be voting for.

Republicans don't attack Obama for defense spending, the area where they should attack him.

Pink: The meanness the Republicans have toward honest people who want nothing more than a job is breathtaking.

Ren: I'm surprised that they haven't attacked Obama for not spending more on defense. The military budget will destroy our economy eventually. It's doing a number on it right now.

I want a pale blue checked top with puffed sleeves like Linda is wearing... wait... what do you mean it's a DRESS?

LOL! That is some "dress." She has a sort of baby doll/Wizard of Oz thing going on there. Could you make a corset out of that material?
