Weekly Address: The Experience of Judge Sotomayor

You looking at me?...

We have a guest for the next few days -- a former professor of mine now at the University of Wyoming. If the blog seems sparse (like today), that's why...

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA1) explains clean energy legislation reported out by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Inslee is the primary sponsor of the New Apollo Energy Act...

Please, Sir, May I Have Another: Just my little piece of the world teams with Media Matters to contrast the the MSM's treatment of Al Gore when he spoke out against the invasion of Iraq with their kid-gloves handling of Dick Cheney, a man who used them repeatedly in the run-up to the war...

Rushbo Stupidism of the Week: Rush has been in a rabid frenzy of the Sotomayor nomination all week, so the swine cast many pearls. After careful consideration, I went with this one, which may have well set a new standard for offensiveness:
If we want to talk about richness of experience, there's a group of people that were here before we got here, gang: the Indians, the Native Americans, the chiefs, the redskins. I don't see any of them being put up on the courts. Talk about a richness of experience -- hell, these clowns beat Custer. They have cred. You don't see them being put up, do you?

Really, the guy just doesn't know when to shut up! The term "graciousness" escapes him.

Rush has to work extra hard to compensate for his tiny genitalia.

K: Amen! (It wouldn't surprise me if he drove a truck with monster tires.)

He really is a big, fat idiot and works hard to prove it each day. He doesn't rest on his laurel. You gotta give him that.

I'm telling, it's a challenge to isolate one quote a week. The possibilities are that vast.

How does Limbaugh survive so long?

I think Limbaugh gives voice to several kinds of people. First, there's the misplaced resentment of people who genuinely fear change and/or who never thought conservatvism would fall from power and influence the way it has. Then there are the true-believer right-wing crackpots who are absolutely convinced that their view of the world is correct and everyone else's is wrong. Another is honest conservatives who don't think past a glib remark or who mistake his ranting for commitment. And of course he's the standard bearer for the anti-intellectual yahoos who have taken over the Republican party.

He reassures the conservative base collectively that they bear no fault for the collapse of their ideology and that the worst thing they can do is change, Instead, they must stand tall against the media, ACORN, and racist power-drunk liberals.

In short, he tells the conservative base what they want to hear and he does it by appealing to their fears and prejudices.
