Sunday Funnies and Arts

In 2000, then U.S. Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers opined that the keys to avoiding a financial crisis were
well-capitalized and supervised banks, effective corporate governance and bankruptcy codes, and credible means of contract enforcement.
He was right as far as it goes, but, as Paul Krugman writes, the United States had none of the above. In fact, the rule of law does not appear to apply to a finance sector that seizes homes not in arrears...

Lance Dickie argues that all the Republicans have to offer to return to the the policies that got us into this mess. It's a perfectly obvious and rational perspective offered to an increasingly irrational electorate obsessed with conspiracy theories...

Miles is unhappy that the band isn't ready, but it sounds pretty good to me. From 1964, with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams:

great comics, as usual. I really like the "Sexual Dis-Orientation" one.

I agree with Michael Moore: people who are losing their homes should refuse to move. What if everyone across the land just refused to vacate their homes? Hmmm?

TD, if you read Krugman, banks -- with the approval of courts -- are evicting people who don't even have mortgages. Moore has something, although it would take organization and a willingness to go to jail to pull it off. Not to mention leadership.

Great collection of comics, as usual. I wish I'd been as inventive about missed homework as Calvin is; claiming the book ate the homework is sheer genius!

And a great video of Miles at his best, with one of his best lineups. Great music for the tag end of a Sunday afternoon.

Love, love, love your selection of cartoons and music. If the band wasn't ready I wonder what it would sound like if it had practiced more. For my money, it couldn't be better. Great stuff.

We need to laugh and listen to good music because it's hard to maintain optomism in today's political climate. I don't even want to listen to the polls because I feel deep depression overcoming me when I hear how absolutely stupid my countrymen are.

Funnies-wise, I had a lot to choose from this week!

That Miles band was tremendous, of course. I think that drummer Tony Williams is 19 or 20. I've often wondered whether pulled together that group partly with the intention of giving himself to show off his speed chops just to show that he could play fast if he felt like it.

I don't know if you can ever hear enough Miles.

Especially like "Garbage In, Garbage Out" and "Floodgate." Not looking forward to the garbage we're going to have to put up with after the election.
